Our Mission

HomeFarm at Undermountain is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that commands a 95-acre property at 400 Undermountain Road in Lenox, Massachusetts. Overlooking the scenic Parsons Marsh, HomeFarm has historic farm buildings, working equestrian facilities such as stables and a large indoor riding arena, and grazing pastures.

Our mission is to preserve and restore the historic farm buildings, protect the beautiful views, and introduce people to the healthful benefits of interaction with animals and the land.

Overview and History

HomeFarm is a rare surviving example of an intact Gilded Age estate farm. It was built in 1902 by Boston surgeon Henry P. Jaques and his brother Eustace Jaques, who were active in the Lenox Hunt and Carriage Society and raised purebred Guernsey cows. The property included the Jaques Stables and dairy barn, the sheep barn, the field barn, and the chicken house. A tenant cottage was added later in the 20th century, and a large horse barn and riding arena were added in 1987.

Our land and buildings have been recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places by the Massachusetts Historical Commission.

We are currently working to raise funds for the restoration and preservation of HomeFarm’s historic farm buildings and structures. Please consider helping to us preserve this unique part of Berkshire’s history and share it with the community. Learn more.
